For all those who love avocados it is a delicious, buttery, finger licking fruit and for those who don’t, it is just another fruit sold at the nearby food market. But there is much more to Avocados than just that.
The first time I had an Avocado, I could describe it to be nothing less than a flavorsome creamy experience. Well, I immediately took a liking towards the fruit. But I wondered to myself, such an appetizing and buttery fruit must come with its baggage of high fat content! So I decided to look into its nutritive ingredients. I was surprised to see what I had found. An avocado, despite its high fat content, is of high nutritive value and is deemed by the Guinness Book of World Records to be the world’s most nutritious fruit.
That’s some good information to start off with! So I decided to look into its nutrients of Avocados, the benefits of which I intend to share it through this article.
Monounsaturated Fatty Acid
As per the Better Nutrition magazine, three fourths of an avocado is fat, monounsaturated fats to be precise. The form of monounsaturated fats found in avocados is oleic acid which is known to lower the risk of heart disease and prevent cancer. Its also known to reduce LDL (Low Density Lipoproteins or bad cholesterol) and increase or maintain HDL (High Density Lipoproteins or good cholesterol).
Folic Acid : Folic Acid aids red blood cell production hence preventing cancer. Its also known to aid proper development of an unborn child’s brain and spinal chord! So it’s a boon to all pregnant women. Adding an Avocado to a pregnant woman’s diet will certainly help the unborn child’s red blood cell development.
Vitamin C : Vitamin C in Avocados is known to prevent the two major types of arthritis which is the Rheumatoid and Osteo- arthritis. It also helps in the development of connective tissues. Vitamin C is known to build the immune system as well.
Other Major Vitamins : Avocados are also rich in Vitamin B6 that helps develop immunity. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and is known for the healthy development of the skin. Vitamin K is known to prevent liver and prostate cancers.
Potassium : Potassium is essential to maintain electrolyte balance and help tackle fatigue and depression too. A rich source of potassium, a single avocado contains approximately 975 mg of potassium.
Glutathione : A natural antioxidant, glutathione is found in abundance in an Avocado.
Its prevents various diseases and cardiopathy
I could righteously say that Avocados are a woman’s best friend (after diamonds of course!). Avocados are known for their benefits in Skin Care, Hair Care, Weight Loss etc
Skin Care: Avocado Oil is known to be rich in plant steroids which when absorbed by the skin prevent aging, facilitating skin rejuvenation. It also absorbs UVA and UVB acting as a natural sunscreen preventing damage of the skin due to suns rays. The inside of the avocado peel when applied on face acts as a natural moisturizer. It is also known to relieve skin diseases like Psoriasis and Eczema.
Hair Care: Avocados are natural conditioners since they are rich in Vitamin A, D, E that hydrate hair follicles at the cellular levels. Hence applying a mixture of Avocado (mashed like- a guacamole) an egg yolk and 2 tablespoons of olive oil, will moisturize hair strengthening it from the roots.
Weight Loss: Funny as it may sound Avocados aid in weight loss. Although they are rich in fat content it’s the good kind of fat. They contain a type of carbohydrate called Mannoheptulose that decreases the secretion of insulin to certain extent. When the cells lining the arteries get accustomed to he insulin they store excess blood sugar as fat. Thus leading to weight gain. Although it contains the good type of fat, one should consume avocados in small amounts at a time.
Such is the goodness of this fruit. One can justly say that all the wholesome nutrition required for one’s body is bundled within this fruit. So next time when you visit the market do not forget to stop before the fruits counter and pick a bunch of Avocados. After all who does not want to live a healthy vigorous lifestyle!
